We have teamed up with the school
district for the Month of the Young Child to hold a dinner for all
of the people that work with young children. We are also going to
get ready for Car Seat checks!

Boulder
County District: Boulder County
Representative: Linda Miron
We are
collaborating with the City of Boulder for a Colorado Children’s
Day Celebration. We are also going to participate with the
Parade of Classrooms, where childcare providers and teachers can
visit various centers and homes to see the different
environments. We will follow with our BC District of CAEYC
Teacher Appreciation Banquet May 8, 2008. We
have a great committee working to make this event a wonderful
evening – if you’d like to join this fun group of awesome people
– email me - the more the merrier!! We will also be hosting
lunch for the Parade of Classrooms on April 25, 2008.

Denver

Denver Metro has been
actively involved in a local collaboration of individuals and
organizations working to bring a unique professional development
opportunity to the metro area. Weaving a New Tapestry of Early
Care and Education is a series of four seminars designed to give
participants a broad-based understanding of the connection
between Developmentally Appropriate Practices and State Early
Learning Standards. Using a format of nationally recognized
experts, facilitated discussion, and internet follow-up, the
seminars will offer the latest information on current topics in
early care and education. The first seminar is scheduled June 21
and will feature Dr. Carolyn Pope Edwards from the University of
Nebraska. Seminars will be half day sessions and have been
approved by the Colorado Department of Human Services for 4.5
clock hours of training per session. Additional information,

Denver Metro will be offering $100
MOYC grants for activities planned in member programs throughout the
metro area. |
Fremont
County District: Fremont County

FCD of CAEYC presents the
Children's Discovery Festival on April 5, 2008 from 11:30 to
3:00 at Holy Cross Abbey Fieldhouse located at 2951 E. Hwy 50
Canon City, CO 81212. Call Angie Shehorn for more information.
There will be free, fun activities for children of all ages:
Sand Table, Petting Zoo, Art and Crafts, Face Painting, Story
Time, Music and Movement, 18ft Inflatable Slide and much, much
more. There will be Hot Dogs, Chips and Soda for only $2. We are
having participants from centers, homes, Children’s Library,
local 4-H, Royal Gorge Academy (boarding school), local
kindergarten teachers and local businesses.
On April 15 – 17th, our Head Start in Fremont County presents
the 33rd Annual SAFETY TOWN, U.S.A. 2008 at 1718 Brookside,
Canon City, CO 81212. They are having gun safety, fire safety,
police ambulance, self defense, bus safety, dog safety and much
much more !

Larimer
County District: Larimer County

Although we are busy with MOYC activities, we have also been having our
board meetings and trainings. Ernie Batson was our
February presenter. He is the owner and director of The
Learning House is Fort Collins. He brought the sixty
participants into the presentation through humor, questions, and
discussion. Ernie displayed some of his wonderful science
materials and books as well.
Our big MOYC event is having Dr. Mom (Dr. Marianne Neifert)
speak. Her presentation topic is IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF
YOUR JOURNEY. She promises the presentation will be
motivating, hilarious, and highly entertaining. Early childcare
professionals will feel affirmed, empowered and "filled up". We
are making contacts for donations for refreshments, flowers,
programs, etc.
The city of Loveland will hang our MOYC Banner across Highway 34
starting on April 3. We will also have the City Council sign and
present a MOYC proclamation for Larimer County. We will have
cardboard dolls for children to decorate, a letter to the
editor, training announcement in the local newspapers, MOYC
flyers that will be distributed through the ECC List Serve, etc.
Many of the centers, homes, and Family Childcare
Associations have events as well with picnics, games for
children, art displays, special guests, etc.

We are building a calendar for the
Month of the Young Child of various activities for children. In
participation with our Child Abuse prevention team, we hope to
take training to all providers regarding recognition and
reporting. We are participating with First Books to sponsor a
Book Fair. We will have a provider appreciation celebration
complete with food and door prizes. There will also be a Day in
the Park Celebration for children.

The Month of the Young Child is celebrated by a provider
appreciation dinner where a provider and a community member who has
worked to better child care in our valley is recognized. The child
care centers and family child care homes participate in parades. The
mayors and commissioners issue a proclamation for the Month of the
Young Child.

Northeast Colorado District: Logan, Phillips, Sedgwick,
Yuma Counties

ECE Conference is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 2nd. In
response to participants’ need to have a 3-credit college course, we
are offering ECE 101 Intro. to ECE and ECE 228 Language and Literacy
as independent study courses in the Spring. Students signing up for
one or both of these courses come to the conference on the 2nd
for an introduction to the course and to begin the course. ECE 101
will be an all morning session, ECE 228 will be an all afternoon
session. Participants who are signed up for one or both of these
courses come to the conference for free.
In
addition to offering the introductions to these two courses at the
conference, we will also have Sam Towers as a guest speaker to do a
2-hour session on Autism. Additionally, Rose Clement will do a
2-hour presentation on Normal Sexual Development in Children (and
how to spot yellow-flag and red-flag behaviors). These two sessions
will be repeated in the afternoon.

During the Month of the Young Child, we
will have a Hands on Festival for children and families. We
are also going to have a Provider/Teacher Appreciation
training on May 17, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. at the Colorado
Springs School. This event will be free for members and
non-members and open to the public.

For the Month of the Young Child, we
are putting an awareness display together in the window of the
Alpine Bank. There will be a Children’s Parade put on by Kids First
in Aspen. Garfield County will host the Provider Appreciation
Dinner. There will also be a Kindergarten Readiness meeting for
parents to hear from kindergarten teachers to prepare for school.

San Luis
Valley District: Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande,
Saguache Counties

The San Luis valley is looking
forward to spring, after a winter of beautiful snow in large
quantities. Throughout the winter the local CAEYC has been
working and looking forward to the spring activities that are
planned for children and adults. A professional development
event is planned for March 28 and 29. The Creative Curriculum
for Preschool will provide a learning opportunity on these two
days. To celebrate the Week of the Young Child the third annual
Come Fly a Kite Event will be held on April 23, 2008. This is an
all day event with a variety of activities. We are celebrating a
little late to give spring some time to take away the snow and
mud. We continue to support and work together with the Early
Childhood Council of the San Luis Valley in the implementation
of these activities and other concerns that affect the children
in our area.

Weld
County District: Weld County

We are pleased to announce that Kathie Young,

In collaboration with Social Services and
United Way of Weld County, and Aims Community College Early
Childhood Education program we are planning several training

April 23rd we will focus on “Learning
Environments”. We will discuss how we can set up the environment to
support young children to reduce behavior issues.

May 8th “Early Literacy” is our topic.
This session will be presented in English and a session in Spanish
will also be available concurrently.

May 12th will be our Membership Celebration
dinner. Our theme is “Hats off to you!” and will be held at a
Greeley Mexican restaurant. Watch for your invitation in the mail!
